이 건물은 주존불主尊佛인 석가여래 좌상을 모시고 있는 불전이다. 정면 3칸, 측면 3칸의 다포식 팔작지붕집이다. 이 절은 신라 무열왕때 의상대사가 처음 세웠다고 전하고 있다. 지금의 건물은 1657년효종8에 원학대사가 이웃에 있던 신흥사를 옮겨 세운 것이다. 처마 끝에 장식된 암막새기와에 ‘옹정경술雍正庚戊’이라는 양각글씨가 있어 1730년조6에 한차례 중수되었음을 알수 있다. 1970년에 보수하다.	Daeungjeon is a Buddhist worship hall enshrining a statue of Sakyamuni. It is said that Wollisa Temple was founded by the Buddhist monk Uisang (625-702). This hall was originally located in the neighboring Sinheungsa Temple, but it was deconstructed and moved to its current location by the Buddhist monk Wonhak in 1657. It was recon- structed in 1730 and further repaired in 1970.
