My dear Dr. Brown,	존경하는 브라운 박사님께,
We are just back from the Annual Meeting and it has been the most impressive and encouraging that I have ever attended. perfect harmony seemed to reign throughout the meeting and the mission seemed more than ever united for a year of vigorous campaign.	저희는 연례 회의에서 막 돌아왔습니다. 그리고 이 회의는 참석해왔던 어떤 모임보다 가장 인상적이었고 힘을 주었습니다. 모임 내내 완벽한 조화가 그 자리를 지배했고, 선교 사역은 왕성한 캠페인을 진행한 일년 동안 연합이 잘 되었던 것으로 보입니다.
You have doubtless' ere this received the reports of the various stations, as well as the individual reports of the several missionaries. The results for the year are most encouraging.	박사님은 여러 선교사들의 개인적인 보고서와 여러 지부들의 보고서를 받았으리라 의심하지 않습니다. 올해의 결과는 매우 힘이 되고 있습니다.
Seoul Station, having set aside Mr. Gale and myself for translation work, I was only allowed one short trip of about a week in the section of the country allotted to me. Mr. Gale was able to do no country work but had charge of the Yunmotkol church wile the Chong Dong Church was allotted to me.	서울지부는 성서 번역 사역을 위해 게일 씨와 저를 따로 떼어 놓았는데, 저는 제게 할당된 시골 지역에 대략 일주일에 한 번 간단한 여행만을 하도록 허락받았습니다. 게일 씨는 지방 사역은 할 수 없고 연못골교회에 대해서만 책임을 맡았고, 반면에 정동교회는 제게 할당되었습니다.
During my absence from the field of one year and six months no opportunity had been given for any one to unite with the church at Chong Dong, and during this whole time the Sacrament of the Lord's supper was administered but once. This is simply stated to show how little pastoral oversight was able to br given.	제가 1년 6개월간 선 교현장에 없는 동안 아무에게도 정동에 있는 교회와 연합하는 기회가 주어지지 않았습니다. 그리고 이 기간 동안 성만찬은 단 한 번 거행되었을 뿐입니다. 이것은 목회적 관심이 얼마나 적은 지 보여주는 단적인 예입니다.
Under these circumstances the work of the church had become very much disorganized, and the efforts of the past year after my return were largely taken up with the reorganization.	이런 환경 아래에서 교회의 사역은 매우 어설프게 되었습니다. 그리고 저는 돌아온 이후 그 사역을 재 정리하는 데 많은 시간을 할애했습니다.
The central church work which had been under Mr. Moore's care, was very much distracted by a disorderly element which came very near wrecking the church, Care and discrimination however, with God's help saved the church and nearly all members have since returned to the fold. You can readily see how, under the circumstances, with Mr. Moore's absence from the field, great results could not have been expected.	무어 씨가 돌보았던 중앙교회 사역은 무질서로 매우 산만해졌습니다. 그러나 하나님의 도우심으로 교회를 구했고, 거의 모든 교인들은 교회로 돌아왔습니다. 박사님은 그런 환경에서 현장에 무어 씨가 없이는 대단한 결과들을 기대할 수 없었다는 것을 잘 아실 수 있습니다.
Mr. Reynolds and Dr. Avison, helped by Mr. Clark have been looking after the field and the prospects for the future are bright. Dr. Vinton of our station, has his time wholly taken up with mission needs, and as a result, you can readily see how, while Seoul station may appear to have a goodly force of workers, she has in reality only had one senior missionary, the Rev. F. S. Miller, whose whole time was to be given to the evangelistic work. Messrs welbon and sharp have not yet passed their third year's examination. Mr. Miller has passed his second, Mr. Clark his first. Despite these discouragements we were able last year to see a goodly number of additions and the prospect for the future is even brighter then the fast.	클라크 씨의 도움을 받은 레널즈 씨와 에비슨 의사는 현장을 돌보고 있으며, 미래에 대한 전망이 밝습니다. 저희 지부의 빈튼 의사는 자신의 시간을 전적으로 선교부의 필요에 맞췄고, 결과적으로 서울지부가 좋은 사역자를 가지고 있는 것으로 보셔도 좋습니다만, 그녀의 선임 선교사는 한 사람밖에 없습니다. 그 선임 선교사는 F. We are looking for great things during the new year on which we have entered. The disturbances in Mr. Moore's church necessitated our surrendering the church building and the congregation was moved into rooms in the hospital prepared for the same.	저희는 곧 맞이할 새해에 수행할 좋은 일들을 찾고 있습니다. 무어 씨의 교회 안에 있는 소동은 우리에게 부득이 교회의 건물을 포기하게 만들었습니다. 그리고 모임은 같은 목적으로 준비되었던 병원 내부 방으로 옮겼습니다.
As you know we have been notified that the government will desire this building, and while the central church will provide for itself a church home, following the line or policy that we have adhered to in Seoul it is necessary to the carrying on of the work that we shall have some central plant for Bible classes and the general work of our station. You will notice that the Mission united with Seoul Station in request for an appropriation for the purchase of a site to be used for these purposes. We cannot expect that the natives, out of their poverty, will provide this in addition to their own church buildings. I trust that the Board will be able to see that this money will be secured for us this year.	박사님이 아시는 것처럼, 저희는 정부가 이 건물을 원하고 있다는 것을 알아차리고 있었습니다. 그리고 그 중앙교회가 자기 힘으로 교회 건물을 마련하는 동안 저희가 서울에서 고수했던 방향과 정책을 따라 다음과 같은 사역을 수행할 필요가 있습니다. 그 사역은 저희가 성경공부반과 저희 지부의 일반적인 사역을 위해 몇 가지 중심 계획을 가지는 것입니다. 박사님은 선교부가 서울지부와 연합하여 이런 목적에 사용될 부지 획득을 위해 지출금을 요청했다는 사실을 아실 것입니다. 저희는 가난한 토착민들의 그들 자신의 교회 건물을 마련하리라 기대할 수 없습니다. 저는 본부가 올해 저희를 위해 이 돈이 확보되어야 한다는 사실을 알게 되리라 믿습니다. 만약 그렇지 않다면 병원 부지는 넘어갈 것이고, 저희 사역은 유감스러운 상태에 빠질 것입니다.
If it is not, and the hospital site is taken over as per agreement our work will be in a sorry plight.	박사님은 저희가 새로운 사역자들을 간절히 바라고 있다는 사실을 아실 것입니다. 저희는 급히 그들이 필요합니다. 저희는 사역자들을 구할 수 있기를 바라고 기도합니다. 물론 신학교에서 공부하는 학생들이 졸업하기를 기다리는 것이 아니라 목사들 가운데서 말입니다.
You will notice that we are calling loudly for new workers. We need badly and we hope and pray that they may be found, perhaps among the settled pastors, without waiting for another year's graduating class from our seminaries.	박사님과 부인에게 저희의 안부를 전합니다.
