으로, 스탠더드 칵테일 가운데 한 종류이다. 모스크바 뮬이라는 이름에는 '''모스크바의 노새'''라는 의미가 있는데, '''노새의 뒷발에 차였을 때와 같은 느낌의 술'''이라는 뜻이다.

베이스인 보드카 자체가 강한 술이기 때문에 뮬은 보드카를 가리킨다는 설도 있으나, 이 칵테일을 만든 사람도 상당한 고집쟁이였다. 1946년, 미국 헐리우드의 술집 주인이 창작한 이 칵테일은 원래 너무 많이 구입한 진저 비어를 팔기 위해 고안한 것으로, 그의 힘이 되어 준 것은 보드카를 팔기에 혈안이 된 메이커 사장. 두 사람의 고육지책으로 탄생한 것이 모스크바 뮬인데, 그 후의 인기는 만든 사람의 상상을 초월했다. 보드카의 지위향상에 공헌한 칵테일이다.<ref>http://terms.naver.com/entry.nhn?docId=415298&cid=48170&categoryId=48396</ref>
