|원문4=<div style="text-align:justify">In response to your inquiry made this afternoon on whether my brother would consider a physician as one of the six I would state that I have asked him about this & he says most certainly he will. Under these circumstances it seems to me that Dr. Gardner could go as the one for in our work there with the six men that are going at least one should be a physician & it would be no loss at all but rather a gain to have him on the ground acquiring knowledge of the language while the arrangement for his settlement in one of the other places were under way.</div>

 |원문5=<div style="text-align:justify">I heard the other day that Mrs. Fry had written about the probable  appointment of a Mr. Scroggs of the Seminary in Chicago, for Korea & I thought to  look him up. I found however that he had graduated last year from the Seminary  but the opinions had by those who knew him in the Seminary were such that I thought I must write & let you know at once. I have not met him myself but I enquired about him from one and another of the men in the seminary & the universal verdict was anything but flattering. I did not find a man who could give him any qualification that would make him a good missionary. The men of whom I made the inquiries were all of them earnest conscientious men who are well spoken of & at  the forefront in all good work.</div>
